After another fun stay in Las Vegas we were beginning to head north and enjoy our final few days in America.
From Vegas (A) we drove 720 kms to Lake Tahoe (B), we had visited here previously back in November 2018 but this was just an overnight stay with another complimentary night via Caesars Rewards at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino (read our review here).
It had been a very long day of driving so after some dinner we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the indoor heated swimming pool and hot tub before bed. From Lake Tahoe we were heading towards our friends in Oregon, after 500 kms we stopped the night at Travelodge by Wyndham Klamath Falls (C) (See our Wyndham Properties review here) and continued the remaining 445 kms the following day (D).We had a beautiful spring weekend catching up with our Kiwi friends again. We were last here in the autumn for Halloween and now the back deck and yard were much more inviting. We enjoyed lots of laughs and a few drinks while the kids played t-ball and had some water fun. While we were there we also celebrated our second anniversary of full time family travel!! It was hard to believe that two years had already past, although we had seen and done a lot of incredible things together. We wrote a little review as well, commenting on some of the things we had learnt along the way, how we were going and how the budget was going. If you haven’t seen it yet or would like a little reminder, click here. After a wonderful weekend we headed towards our last state and city of America, taking a slight detour on the way to see Multnomah Falls (E). We weren’t expecting it to be so busy but it was a very scenic area. We walked up to the viewing bridge but couldn’t go right to the top of the falls as the track was closed due to recent rock falls. Plenty of people and tour groups around but lots of free parking available. We continued on 300 kms and arrived in Seattle (F) for a short two night stay at Days Inn by Wyndham Seattle South Tukwila, our last Wyndham property for awhile.
We spent a full day exploring Seattle and really liked the vibe of the city. Of course we checked out the Space Needle and Seattle Center as well as the pretty smelly, Gum Wall and very famous, Pike Place Market. Here we found some fish and chips for lunch, pretty expensive for what we got and nowhere near as good as New Zealand F&Cs.Nevertheless, we soaked up the beautiful sunshine during the afternoon at the park and by the piers and all agreed it was a very enjoyable last day in America. The following day we only had a couple of hours to drive before we were saying farewell to America for the final time and heading back into Canada (G). In total, across our three different visits, we had spent 132 nights on American soil, drove around 32,000 kms/20,000 miles, and visited (even if briefly), 44 states and D.C.We enjoyed America a lot more than we imagined and saw some truly outstanding landscapes and some very memorable sights. There is still so much more to see and a few places are on our “return to one day” list.
Average Daily Spend for 6 nights – $163.62 NZD ($123.88 under budget per day)
