Laos, Vang Vieng – Mountainview Riverside Boutique Hotel

We had to double check the meaning of ’boutique’ after checking in to this hotel and it was “a business serving a sophisticated or specialised clientele”. I’m not sure we are classified as “sophisticated” but perhaps “specialised” as it’s been hard to find good family style rooms in accommodation throughout Laos.Mountainview Riverside Boutique Hotel_Vang Vieng_LaosWe found this accommodation option via booking.com and was about the only one in central Vang Vieng that could accommodate four people in a biggish room (22m²).

The room was comfortable enough with 2 x large beds, a bathroom and small balcony looking out towards the mountain ranges. The beds were pretty comfortable but we did move one slightly to give us a little more room and better access to the the balcony.Mountainview Riverside Boutique Hotel_Vang Vieng_Laos_1The Wi-Fi has fine when we first arrived but after a few hours it dropped out and it took well over 24 hours for it to be rectified and fixed after numerous remainders. The room had air con, a ceiling fan, TV, a small fridge and while there was a safe in our room it wasn’t worthwhile as it wasn’t bolted onto anything!?!?

We had good breakfasts each morning which were included in the room rate and most often we had eggs cooked in our choice of style with baguettes, fresh fruit and tea and coffee was also available. Filtered water was available 24/7 in the lobby and if we needed anything else the staff were pleasant and would easily assist. The hotel also provides a great laundry service for 5,000 LAK ($0.91 NZD) per kg. This was half the price of the best rate we found in Luang Prabang.

The hotel is in a good location in central Vang Vieng with the nearby streets having numerous eating options, tour operators, mini marts, bicycle, scooter and off-road buggy hire. There are numerous caves and blue lagoons nearby, as well as kayaking and tubing being very popular along the Nam Song River.Mountainview Riverside Boutique Hotel_Vang Vieng_Laos_2We mostly walked around the main township as there is a lot close by or hired bicycles for 15,000 LAK ($2.73 NZD) per bike per day.
